Alternative Music Week

What is Alternative Music Week?

"Alternative Music Week" is resurrected nomenclature, pulled from the bowels of WRFL history. In 1988, six months after first hitting the airwaves, WRFL-FM sponsored its first Alternative Music Week by bringing six alternative music groups to Lexington for a week of concerts. All different styles of music were represented, appealing to just about every genre-loving music fan. The bands that performed during that inaugural event did so out of support for WRFL, feeling that it was vital to have a station that provided exposure for alternative and local bands. And now history repeats itself 20 years later. The Alternative Music Week is a collection of musical and artistic talents who have agreed to participate in a weeklong of charity benefits around Lexington to raise money for the wattage upgrade recently approved by the FCC. The groups, as those of their predecessors 20 years before, believe in WRFL and would like to see them widen their listening audience.
